Description

Introduction

The Negev NG7 is a modern machine gun of Israeli origin. It was developed by IWI at the request of the Israeli Defense Force and was adopted around 2012.

Design

The Negev NG7 is an upscaled and modernized version of the original Negev light machine gun. Unlike its predecessor it is chambered in the more powerful 7.62x51mm NATO round. The ability to use box magazines is no longer there, but semi-automatic fire remains available. The modernized furniture includes a Picatinny sight rail on top of the receiver and a fully adjustable folding stock.

Firepower

The Negev NG7 fires the 7.62x51mm NATO round. It is belt fed only. Clip-on belt boxes for 100 or 125 rounds are issued with the Negev NG7. The rate of fire is 600 to 750 rpm on the regular gas setting. A second gas setting is for use in harsh conditions. When used on a clean weapon the rate of fire is about 1.000 rpm. The maximum effective range is quoted as 1 km against area targets. The SF model has a shorter barrel and the effective range is up to 800 m.

Users

The Negev NG7 was adopted by the Israeli Defense Force. It is available for export.
